EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama track and field alums Kirani James and Champion Allison both advanced to the semifinals of the 400 meters on day three of the World Championships being held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
James (Grenada) and Allison (USA) both advanced to the World Championships’ 400m semifinals with James (45.29) posting the third fastest time out of the heats and Allison (45.56) wins the fifth heat to post the seventh-fastest time of the day.
Alabama Results at the World Championships
- Kirani James (Grenada) took second in the sixth heat of the 400 meters preliminaries and third overall with a time of 45.29, advancing him to the semifinals
- Champion Allison (USA) won the fifth heat of the 400-meter preliminaries with a time of 45.56, ranking him seventh coming out of heats and advancing him to the semfinals
- Natassha McDonald (Canada) posted a top-30 finish in the women’s 400 meters at the World Championships, taking 28th with a time of 52.41
- Daniel Haugh (USA) finished second in the prelims of the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 79.34 meters, advancing him to finals, before taking eighth in finals with a toss of 78.10 meters
- Shelby McEwen (USA) tied for ninth in the prelims of the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.28 meters, advancing to the finals
- Portious Warren (Trinidad and Tobago) took 25th in the women’s shot put with a best toss of 16.65 meters
Crimson Tide Action on Day Four (Monday)
- Starting at 5 p.m. PT, Tarsis Orogot (Uganda) and Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) compete in the heats of the men’s 200 meters, with Richards in the second heat and Orogot in the fourth
- Shelby McEwen (USA) will compete in the final of the men’s high jump at 7:45 p.m. PT
- Tamara Clark (USA) and Olivia Fotopoulou (Cyprus) run in the heats of the women’s 200-meter prelims staring at 8 p.m. PT, with Clark in heat four and Fotopoulou in heat six
