At some point or other, we’ve all been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but do you really understand why?
Breakfast is the first meal of the day and as the name suggests, allows us to break our fast from the previous night.
The body uses a lot of energy for growth and repair throughout the night. Eating a healthy balanced breakfast helps to recoup what was used while we slept.
Here’s a list of reasons you shouldn’t skip breakfast.
It boosts your metabolism
Having a healthy, balanced breakfast will kick-start your metabolism and provide the energy needed to get you through the day.
It improves focus and memory
Eating breakfast can help boost your cognitive functions and also improves alertness and focus.
It lowers the risk of diabetes
Some studies suggest that regularly missing breakfast can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes as it could cause insulin resistance.
It decreases inflammation
While we sleep our bodies are hard at work using energy stores for repairs. After enduring the “stress” of the night before, our bodies need to be replenished. Consistently skipping breakfast can lead to stress and inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation can result in symptoms like swollen joints, stiffness and even flu-like symptoms like fever and chills.
