38 new COVID-19 cases identified; rapid testing now being used for symptomatic patients and close contacts

By BBN Staff: After processing a total of 119 samples today, 38 samples tested positive for COVID-19, representing a positivity rate of 31.9%.

The distribution of the new cases is as follows:

Corozal – 2 (1 San Narciso, 1 town)
Orange Walk -15 (10 Orange Walk Town, 2 Trial Farm, 1 Yo Creek, 1 San Jose, 1 from Santa Elena)
Belize – 6 (2 Ladyville, 2 San Pedro, 1 City, 1 from Concepcion, Corozal)
Cayo – 15 (6 San Ignacio, 3 Santa Elena, 1 Camp Belizario, 1 Ontario, 1 Georgeville, 1 Benque Viejo del Carmen, 1 Belmopan, 1 Santa Familia)

There were 17 recoveries reported leaving 2,189 or 43.2% of total cases active.

In the latest COVID-19 update, the Ministry of Health and Wellness notes that in an attempt to scale up testing due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases “all regional hospitals and most community hospitals have now implemented rapid testing for symptomatic patients and those close contacts of confirmed cases”.
